Locally known as the greatest view in England, Sutton Bank is a brilliant place to go for a family walk and blow away those cobwebs!
Parking: Visitors centre pay and display carpark (change needed at time of writing).
Distance: 3 miles
Route: Available from the North York Moors.
Accessibility: Not suitable for pushchairs, although a shorter accessible route is available.
Facilities: The visitor centre has toilets, a cafe and a natural playground. The car park under the white horse frequently has an ice cream van too.
We started the walk by leaving the visitor centre and heading straight for the famous viewpoint. Truly breath-taking!
After that, we headed along the ridge of Sutton Bank. There are lots of benches along the path to pause and enjoy the views, or have a bite to eat! Just be aware that after leaving the shelter of the trees it can get rather blustery (evidenced by the gliding centre that you pass) so make sure that you wrap up warm.
You’ll pass a path branching off to the right, heading down the bank. Don’t worry, it doesn’t drop all the way to the bottom! But leads through some beautiful woodland to come our at the carpark below the White Horse.
Climb the steps to the right of the horse to take you to the top of the ridge again, and complete the circuit by heading back along the ridge, where you’ll soon meet the path you started on.
Back at the visitor centre you have time to enjoy the natural play ground and some light education before you leave!
